Heart to Heart began in 2007 with a few students at the University of Pennsylvania, who were involved in Jewish life and wanted to help others feel welcome in the Jewish community. After seeing the possibility and need to expand – both among the welcomers and the welcomees, it has since become a global network of hundreds of students across America, Canada, England, and Israel.
Our mission is to include uninvolved students in Jewish life by empowering and inspiring involved Jewish students to share meaningful experiences and relationships with their peers. Using models of relationship-based engagement, involved students include their less-involved peers in their vibrant Jewish lives through genuine friendships integrated with initiatives such as intimate Shabbat dinners, explanatory learning, and holiday programming. The means are endless, but often start with a welcoming smile, a friendly greeting, and a meaningful conversations, or as we like to call it – “Heart to Heartâ€.
